Birdviewing Hike - Havre Trails
1:00 PM
Sands WPA and Fresno WMA
Description:
MSU-Northern Biology Professor Terri Hildebrand will be leading us on a bird-viewing adventure. We'll start at Sands Waterfowl Production Area just west of town and view several bird species here. For those who wish to continue (and get some walking in), we'll then caravan out to the Fresno Wildlife Protection Area 10 miles north of Kremlin. Here we have the potential to walk around a bit and see blue herons, swans, pelicans, and others.

Difficulty of Terrain: Easy

Where to meet: Meet at 1pm at Sands Waterfowl Production Area just west of Havre. To get there, drive west of town past Walmart and turn left at the Hwy 87 junction. Drive south 1.2 miles and just after Big Equipment (on the left), you'll see a turnoff on the right. Park here. Note: If you plan to drive out to Fresno WPA afterward, a high-clearance vehicle is highly recommended. Carpooling with others may be possible.

What to bring: Attendees should dress in warm layers (including windbreaker) with sturdy shoes. Bring plenty of water and snacks, and binoculars and/or spotting scopes if you have them. Make sure to have gas in your tank if joining the drive out north. We'll be out 3-4 hours total (1.5 hours driving).
